Poker Strategies

Whether you are playing poker with your friends or strangers for that matter, the one thing that’s common amongst all poker players is their strategies. If you haven’t noticed yet, each of your fellow poker players employs a unique poker strategy of their own in the game. And this happens in both online poker games as well as home or casino poker games.

The poker strategies vary greatly from player to player and encompass different aspects of their gaming session such as the way they dress to how they talk, how they play each hand that they are dealt with and so on. Most experienced poker players follow their strategies very strictly; to the extent that they might ditch their hand if their strategy dictates so even when they know their opponent is bluffing.

Now you may be new to the game or maybe not. But, if you don’t have a strategy of your own in place, don’t worry because we’ve got your back! In this blog, we have curated a list of top 3 Poker Strategies that are sure to improve your chances of winning.

Play fewer hands but play them aggressively

Even if you are the best poker player in your group, there’s a limit to the number of hands you can play before the flop. The rule is very simple, if you play too many hands you’ll lose all your chips. So, develop a solid preflop poker strategy and improve your bottom line. That said, only developing solid preflop strategies won’t help, you’ve to stick to the strategy. No matter how impatient you get, don’t play a hand that’s not worth playing. In and all, the best approach is to play a range of tight, playable hands aggressively.

Say no to limping first

We are not asking you to stop limping completely but being the first person to limp drastically hampers your chances of winning. That’s all. Limp but don’t be the first one to do it. Here’s why

  • The odds of winning the pot before the flop is way less compared to the odds of winning if you raise
  • When you limp first, you give other players very enticing pot odds. This adds to the number of your competitors, dragging down your chances of winning the pot.

Avoid slow playing your strong hands

Slow playing strong hands is a very common mistake which is often committed by players who are scared of chasing their opponents out of the pot. Don’t be that guy. The best way is to bet your strong hands to build the pot and protect your equity. However, that doesn’t mean you should always bet/raise your strong hands post-flop. Take precautions and adopt these strategies if

  • The chances of you being outdrawn are very unlikely
  • Not many scare cards are left to prevent you from winning
  • When you know your opponent’s range is mostly hands with no showdown value.

Bottom line: All said and done, the bottom line of sharing these strategies is that your chances of winning increases if your game is better than even half the players on the table.
